Community Education
Beyond the Clinic — TEXAVET's Commitment to the Houston Community
At TEXAVET, caring for pets means caring for the community they live in. We believe that every animal deserves a healthy life – not just the pets of families who can afford regular veterinary care, but the thousands of dogs and cats in Houston-area shelters and rescues waiting for their second chance. Through our community education programs, we work alongside local animal rescue organizations in Houston to reduce the number of homeless pets in our region, support the dedicated people who care for them, and help connect adoptable animals with loving families.

Rescue & Shelter Support
Houston has one of the largest stray and homeless pet populations in the United States. The animal rescue organizations in Houston that work to address this crisis do so tirelessly, taking in animals from the streets, nursing them back to health, spaying and neutering them, and finding them permanent homes. The challenge they face is enormous, and every dollar saved on veterinary care can be redirected to helping more animals.
TEXAVET supports Houston rescue organizations and animal shelters by donating vaccines and preventive care, reducing the cost burden on rescues so they can stretch their resources further. When a rescue spends less on vaccines, they can help more animals off the street, fund more TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) programs for stray cats in Houston, and bring more pets to adoption readiness.
“Texavet has been an amazing resource! By donating vaccines and prevention to us, Cares is able to use the monies saved to help more animals on the street and support the rescues’ TNR cat program that does not gain adoption fees but is extremely important to reduce the amount of stray cats throughout multiple areas of Houston.” — Executive Director, Houston Cares Animal Rescue
